The British Academy for Training and Development offers a course on the fundamentals of directional drilling. This course aims to provide participants with a solid foundation in the principles and practices of directional drilling, including calculations and planning for directional well drilling. Participants will also learn important practices for drilling these wells while minimizing environmental impact and costs.
The course covers an introduction to directional drilling, the conditions under which directional wells are drilled, planning for directional well drilling, survey terminology and tools, measurement and recording processes during drilling, applications of directional drilling, drilling methods, different types of bottom hole assemblies (BHA), and practical procedures for adjusting the drilling process based on the current well condition and drilling operation.
Additionally, it includes equipment for downhole directional drilling, drilling motors, and rotary steerable systems (RSS) used for drilling and changing the direction of directional wells, as well as specific problems associated with directional drilling, such as torque, tripping operations, hole cleaning and drilling, well logging, and the design of drilling process chain elements.
